Writing the same caption everywhere is the fastest way to make it perform nowhere. Each platform has its own rhythm — what reads as sharp on X reads as clipped on LinkedIn, and what feels personal on Threads can feel underdressed on Instagram. A few practical adjustments go a long way.
1. Lead with the hook that fits the feed
LinkedIn rewards a specific, credible opening line. X rewards a blunt one. Instagram rewards a visual promise ("swipe for the breakdown"). Rewrite your first line for the platform, not just the body.
2. Match the length to the reading posture
- LinkedIn — people are scanning between meetings; short paragraphs, one idea per line.
- X — say the one thing, cut everything else.
- Instagram — the caption supports the image, it doesn't compete with it.
- Threads — conversational, like you're replying to a friend.
- Bluesky — closer to X, but the audience skews more technical — you can go one level deeper.
3. Don't port hashtags 1:1
Hashtags do real discovery work on Instagram and X. On LinkedIn they mostly read as noise unless they're a handful of specific, relevant ones.
4. Adapt the call to action
"Link in bio" makes sense on Instagram. On LinkedIn and X, a direct link in the post itself works fine and gets more clicks.
5. Keep one source of truth
The version that breaks is the one you rewrite from memory each time. Start from a single draft, then adapt deliberately for each destination — that's the whole idea behind Growpost.
The goal isn't five different ideas. It's one good idea, translated five times.
